Overview
Financial Decisions at Guilford & How to Make Your Voice Heard
The process by which an institution creates, approves, and implements a budget - which includes salaries, tuition, maintenance and more - is multi-faceted. Deciding the budget for a given fiscal year is a dance of compromise between the various stakeholders, and students are rarely given the opportunity to voice their opinions on the matter.
At Guilford College, students are already more involved in financial decisions that at other schools because of the College's Quaker roots and foundational core values that call for consensus among all members of the community. However, the structures through which students can voice their opinions aren't well-publicized. Even if there are some who take the time and effort to find out how to make their thoughts known, the collective voice of the student body has been all too quiet in the making of recent financial decisions.
